Parent Teacher Student Advisory Council: longer name reflects those served

Schoharie Jr./Sr. High School's Parent Teacher Student Advisory Council formed this fall with a longer name that reflects the many constituencies served.

The council held its first meeting on Oct. 5. Topics of discussion included the Regents Reform Agenda, Race to the Top and new assessments for students grades 3-12.

According to Jr./Sr. High School Principal Stacey DeLaney, "the council encourages open communication and increased involvement in the school community. PTSAC members share ideas, concerns and comments about the High School, and are part of the decision-making process.

Council members are informed of changes and requirements set by the State Education Department and of what is expected regarding curriculum, assessment and performance review.

They also discuss discipline, attendance and other school-related topics."

PTSAC members include parents/guardians, a School Board member, teachers and students. The council meets at our school library, the first Wednesday of each month prior to the Board of Education meeting. The next meeting is Nov. 2.
