Valedictorian - Jeffrey Chilton

This year's valedictorian, Jeffrey Chilton, is a free spirited youth who enjoys singing, thinking, and romantic walks on the beach, qualities he attributes to his parents Cecile Stewart and Douglas Chilton and his brother Daniel; they have always been the biggest inspirations and influences on his life. When not shaking hands, kissing babies, or other valedictorian type things, Jeff spends his time satisfying his musical passion. He has a long track record of school musical involvement, from the happy academic Scarecrow to the downright depressed Coalhouse Walker Jr. In addition to this, he has participated in a number of honor ensembles including the All-State Chorus and the New York State Honors Band. To supplement his right-brained pleasures, Jeff strives to stimulate his mind through both his peers and his classes. He has taken a variety of college credit courses such as AP English, Honors Chemistry, UHS History, and UHS French in high school. These classes, when combined with intellectual debates between himself and esteemed friend Samuel Tavenner, are at the core of his well rounded education here at Schoharie. Finally, he would like to thank everyone involved in this schooling.

Co-Salutatorian - Samuel Tavenner

Co-Salutatorian Samuel Tavenner, is the son of Alan and Eileen Tavenner and lives in Central Bridge. He is the proud recipient of several awards including the RPI Medal, RIT Computing Medal, AP Scholar award and the DAR Good Citizen Award. Over the past several summers he has attended NYS Boys’ State, PR2EPS Summer Science Camp, a National Junior Leadership Conference on Defense, and was a member of a ten-day hiking expedition in Philmont, NM. Sam’s involvement in the arts includes Band, Choir, and participation in four school musicals (including last year’s “Les Miserables” in the role of Javert). He has participated in both Area All-State and All County Festivals and played with the Schoharie Valley Concert Band on several occasions. He has also been a member of Key Club, the student-led paper “The Chief”, and the Schoharie Ski Club. He has run for the Varsity Cross-Country Team and is a four-year veteran on the Varsity Tennis team. Sam is also a member of the Schoharie United Presbyterian Church and Boy Scout Troop 105 of Esperance, where he expects to receive his Eagle Scout Award this Spring. After graduation, he plans to attend a four year college with a major in physics.

Co-Salutatorian - Melanie Junge

Melanie Junge has been named Co- Salutatorian at Schoharie Central School for the 2010 graduating class. Melanie is the daughter of John and Celeste Junge of Schoharie and sister of John. She has been attending Schoharie since kindergarten and currently resides in Schoharie. During her high school years, Melanie has been involved in numerous activities. These activities include being inducted into the National Honor Society; being the Junior and Senior Class Treasurer; FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Treasurer; high school band; high school choir; musicals; a guest performer at the Depot Lane Singers Christmas concert; sports teams including volleyball, bowling, and softball; student teller at the Schoharie Valley Branch of the First New York FCU; Schoharie Valley Concert Band; Music for Life charity concert; and a member at Schoharie United Presbyterian Church. During the summers, you can find her working at the Schoharie Community Pool as a Swimming Lesson Aide. Melanie has been extremely active in Schoharie’s music department. She has been playing flute in the band since fourth grade and has had the opportunity to represent Schoharie at numerous festivals including NYSSMA, All- County, Area All-State, and Honors Band. One of her most rewarding roles has been leading others through holding the first chair position for the past two years and holding the title of Secretary this year as well. She has also been involved in all four musicals in her high school career, starting with Titanic and running through the Wizard of Oz, Les Misérables, and ending this year with Ragtime. After graduating, Melanie plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Childhood Education with a Concentration in Mathematics at a college in New York State.
