Schoharie CSD has scheduled a special Board of Education meeting on May 18, at 7 p.m. to be held remotely via Webex. The purpose of the meeting is to approve a proposed budget that will be voted on by district residents in June by absentee ballot.
The annual budget vote for fiscal year 2020-21 by the qualified voters of the Schoharie Central School District will be held via absentee ballot on Tuesday, June 9 per Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s Executive Order. Schoharie CSD is mailing out absentee ballots to registered voters in the district later this month. Ballots must be returned to the district no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. Ballots must be mailed in using the included postage-paid return envelope. By law, all voters must sign the “Statement of Absentee Voter” and returned by 5 p.m. on June 9 in order to be counted.
The May 18 meeting is being held remotely to be in compliance with New York on Pause social distancing and will also meet the standards of Gov. Cuomo’s most executive order pertaining to the Open Meetings Law.
The public will be able to follow the proceedings through audio by accessing Webex via a computer, tablet or phone. In addition, a recording of the meetings will be transcribed and made available to the public at a later time, along with the minutes from the meeting.
Any executive session periods of the meeting will not be accessible through Webex, just as those periods would be closed to the public during a regular school board meeting. Although New York State Law does not require that a school board hold a public comment period, even when meetings are held as normal, Schoharie CSD is committed to transparency and exceeding what is legally required in order to ensure your concerns are heard.

Comments received from now until 4 p.m., May 18, will be read into the record so they are an official component of that night’s board meeting.
