Across the pond experts guide Select Choir

group of singersThanks to a grant with Proctors, Schoharie High School’s Select Choir recently participated in what music teacher Carrie Styles described as a “fabulous workshop” with The King’s Singers, a world-renowned a capella sextet from England. The workshop was held Nov. 17-18 at Proctors in Schenectady.

Founded at King’s College in Cambridge, England in 1968, The King’s Singers is made up of six choral scholars: two countertenors, a tenor, two baritones and a bass.

“The Select Choir worked with their teachers at SCS to prepare a few pieces before the workshop,” Styles said. “They then rehearsed on Friday and Saturday before performing the pieces.

“After singing them for The King’s Singers, members of the a capella group gave valuable feedback and suggestions to improve our performance,” Styles said.

“The singers were skilled, enthusiastic and very engaging as you can see from our photograph with them. This incredible opportunity was offered to us through our grant with Proctors.”
