Dairy Month begins June 1, and New York State Commissioner of Agriculture Richard Ball stopped by Mary Bates’ class to kick it off by teaching students about the importance of the dairy industry.

Commissioner Ball met with the fifth graders May 31 to talk about dairy farming in New York and beyond.

“He also discussed the nutritional value of dairy products in our lives,” Bates said. “We thank him for taking the time to share this important message with our students.”

The commissioner is a Schoharie resident and owner of Schoharie Valley Farms / the Carrot Barn, and he often shares his knowledge and time with SCS students.
