Expanded mental health services, nurse practitioner for students, families

Jennifer Sanders sitting at her deskSchoharie Central School District  is expanding its long-standing partnership with the Schoharie County Office of Community Services and Mental Health by increasing from two to five days a week the availability of on-campus mental health services and support for students and their families.

A Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will also begin providing services at the schools.

Jennifer Sanders, LMSW, a Licensed Master Social Worker with Schoharie County, is now available Monday through Friday on school days from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., working out of a new office location in high school room 6, which is located across from the gym.

Sanders provides counseling to SCS students and their parents/guardians and assists them in connecting with available services in the county.

Joining Sanders in her SCS office part-time will be Kelly Farnan, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who is also with the Schoharie County Office of Community Services and Mental Health. Farnan will work with individuals who are actively engaged in therapy with Sanders, and her appointments will be arranged by Sanders.

Sanders and Farnan are part of SCS’s team approach to providing mental health care for all students that also includes school social workers, psychologists, guidance counselors, and nurses.
