Famous feline honors little readers

Reading gets recognized at Schoharie Elementary, where a famous feline recently padded down hallways and into classrooms to honor students’ reading efforts this school year.

The March 12 visit by the Cat in the Hat celebrated Schoharie Elementary students’ reading to learn, to grow, to enjoy and also to support a great cause, Read for Ronald McDonald House. The Cat’s visit also followed Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss Week, which encourage children across the U.S. to read.

This past fall, students at Schoharie Elementary read and collected pledges from families and friends to raise awareness – and more than $3,400 – for Ronald McDonald House of Albany. Located at 139 S. Lake Ave. and opened in 1982, the house provides a welcoming place to stay and supportive services, free of charge, for families of critically ill children being treated in Capital Area hospitals.
