Jr./Sr. High School students tap maple trees

One of the earliest signs of the end of winter in Upstate New York are tapped maple trees. Schoharie students are learning all about how to tap maple trees and how to process the sap into maple syrup!
Tapping supplies were provided from NY Ag in the Classroom for the Schoolyard Sugaring Contest. Students are learning the process of collecting sap, learn the steps to boiling the sap into maple syrup, and submit their product for judging against other schools.
Ayden Frederick and Hunter Funk, who are both in the Wildlife & Ecology Class, are seen here checking the taps and collecting sap this week. What a great project!
