Letter to sports fans

August 2018

Dear Schoharie Nation:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year- Back to School! And with Back to School comes all of our other favorite Fall activities: apple picking in local orchards, arguing over who has the best cider doughnuts in the Valley, and watching our Indians and Lady Indians Fall sports teams in action.

Please remember that how we conduct ourselves as fans is a direct representation of our school and our community. Our student-athletes put in a great deal of hardwork and effort to get to competition level. We hold them to high standards for conduct and sportsmanship, and we expect the same from our spectators. Inappropriate and distracting behaviors from the crowd impact more than just the game: they sour the experience for the student-athletes and negatively impact our team and our district’s reputations.

We always expect our fans to be positive and appropriate. Be loud, be proud, and be there for our kids! This is even more necessary if the other team’s fan base does not hold itself to the same high standard.

So this season: please let the players play, let the coaches coach, let the officials officiate, and let the spectators be positive!

I am looking forward to another terrific Fall sports season (and conducting research for the cider doughnut conversation). Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Dr. Kevin Calacone
Principal
