Schoharie Backpack/School Pantry programs receive grant funding

Schoharie CSD’s Backpack/School Pantry programs recently received a much-needed boost from Walmart – actually two!

The program, which currently assists 32 families in grades K-12, was awarded $2,000 from the Walmart distribution center in Sharon and $500 from the Cobleskill Walmart store.

The Elementary School has had its program for at least 20 years. The Jr./Sr. High School implemented its program in 2019. Both programs focus on providing food to cover a weekend – two breakfast items, three entrée items, two to four snack items, fresh produce, bread, and Stewart’s milk and egg cards every other week. The programs primarily consist of shelf sustainable items such as cereal, pasta, soups, rice, peanut butter and jelly and pasta sauce.

The programs are very fluid. Families can participate at any point of the year and can access the program for as long as they need.
For more information, please ask your child’s teacher or call their school’s main office.

Thank you to all who help our school community, especially during these tough times!
