Schoharie CSD will be closed for two weeks

The following email was sent to Schoharie CS parents and guardians on Friday, March 13, at about 7:15 p.m.:

Friday, March 13, 2020

Dear Schoharie CSD parents and guardians,

Based on the recommendation of the Schoharie County Department of Health, we are joining with other county school districts and closing school for students for the next two weeks, from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. This closure applies to all district events, extracurricular activities and athletics.

Although there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19/Coronavirus in our district at the present time, our local DOH has recommended this action as a preventative measure, given the rapidly evolving nature of the virus’s impact.

During the closure, please note the following:

  • We plan for our district offices, as well as the main offices in the elementary and jr./sr. high school to remain open. We ask that you refrain from visiting our schools and instead contact us (when possible) via telephone or email.
  • We are exploring options for food/meal services for students during the closure. More information will be available in the coming days.
  • Because there are significant obstacles to affording our instructional programs in an entirely online format, that will not be our goal. However, we soon will share resources for parent-guided and self-guided learning for students.

As Gov. Andrew Cuomo stated during his press conference today, school superintendents have the ability to decide to close their school districts, and the superintendents of our region have made that determination. The New York State Education Department continues to work with the governor’s office, the New York State Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Education to provide guidance to our schools around issues such as instructional time and test scheduling.  As soon as we have further guidance, we will share that information with our families.

This situation is very fluid and could change as we continue to work with the Schoharie County Department of Health and New York State Department of Health. The most current and accurate information about the coronavirus can be found at

We fully understand the impact a two-week school closure will have on all of our families. Please know that we made this decision based on health officials’ recommendations and the knowledge that the health and safety of our students, staff and our community are our highest priorities.

Thank you for your continued patience and partnership. We will share any further updates with you as soon as possible, both through our SchoolMessenger notification system and on our website at
