Superintendent’s message regarding return of students in September

Good afternoon,

While there is plenty of summer left, Schoharie CSD continues to plan for the return of students in September.

The CDC recently released its guidance for schools, and we are waiting for additional information from New York State. Even though there are still some unknowns, we would like to share with you an outline of what the return to school will look like based on what we know now.

Please know, that much can still change and as it does, we will do our best to keep you informed.

The Elementary School day, including Pre-K, will begin at 7:45 a.m. and end at 2:06 p.m. Students will return to traditional sized classrooms and will no longer be in cohorts. Music, art and PE will resume.

After school activities will resume to the extent allowed. Students who would like to ride the bus home following after-school activities will be provided transportation. Activities that are planned so far include: choir in fourth and fifth grade; band in fifth grade; Just Run for grades 3 through 5; and intramural sports for grades 4 and 5.

The Jr./Sr. High School day will begin at 8:55 a.m. and continue until 3:24 p.m. The building will open at 8:50 a.m. and buses will depart by 3:30 p.m. Overflow classrooms will not be required this year. After-school activities, such as athletics and clubs, will resume to the extent allowed. Varsity and junior varsity fall sports will start on August 23rd, while modified sports will start on August 30th.

At this time, face masks continue to be required on buses and in classroom settings for summer program students and staff, regardless of vaccination status. Mask breaks are allowed and masks may be removed when students and staff are outside. This policy is informed by guidance from the CDC, New York State and our local health officials. We expect additional updates to come out regarding our mask policy as we approach September.

Sincerely,
David Blanchard, Superintendent of Schools
