A firsthand view of government

group of interns stand on the capitol stepsEach month, Schoharie’s 4-H legislative interns Emma Bernhardt, Jaydan Guasp, Sarah Helmstadt, Carolyn Krohn, Christopher Snyder and Emily Stevens attend a variety of meetings and sessions, and they often gain a first-hand view of the inner workings of government.

The students receive credit for their Participation in Government class, but their experiences add up to much more.

Their activities have included visits state representatives including Sen. James Seward. In a post on his Facebook page, he said, “Great to meet with high school seniors from Cobleskill-Richmondville Central Schools, Sharon Springs Central School, and Schoharie Central School District in the Schoharie County 4-H legislative intern program. As a past member of 4-H, I am proud to see the program’s traditions continuing with today’s students through this unique program.”
