FFA aces State Fair events

The Schoharie Valley FFA turned in an outstanding performance at the 2018 New York State Fair.

Dairy Handlers Andrew Hahn placed 4th and Hannah Cater 6th, with Andrew qualifying for competition at the Eastern States Exposition in Massachusetts.

“The Livestock Judging Team Career Development Event allows agricultural education students the opportunity to make accurate observations of livestock (beef, sheep, swine and goats) to determine the desirable traits in animals, make logical decisions based on their observations, and discuss and defend those decisions.

“Participants place classes of breeding and market beef, sheep, and swine, and then give oral reasons to the judges as to why they placed each class as they did. Members Included Hannah Cater, Katie Brisley, Joyce Kennedy, Sally Stanton and Jamie Fox.

“The Poultry Team finished 5th in the State Poultry CDE and the Equine Judging Team was 9th.”
