Schoharie CSD mourns passing of student

With profound sadness, Schoharie CSD must inform you that on Sunday, November 27th, we learned an 11th grade student passed away over the weekend.

We are prepared to do whatever we can as a school district to support all of our students, families and staff members at this time. School counselors and psychologists will be available for drop-in support for all Schoharie CSD students throughout the day today, Monday, Nov. 30. Staff at the school will be meeting prior to the start of the school day in order to ensure we are able to fully support our school community in the days and weeks to come.

In addition to attending Schoharie CSD, the student also was enrolled in CTE programming at Capital Region BOCES. Counseling staff will be available at the Schoharie CTE campus.

Our children, as well as adults, may have many reactions to news about someone’s death, even if they did not know them. Reactions such as sadness, confusion, and anger are common. We encourage you to talk with your child. Discussing thoughts and feelings about death is important in helping your child work through a difficult situation. Reassure them that whatever they are feeling is okay. Additional resources for talking with your child about grief are available at: https://www.schoharieschools.org/about-us/family-resources/grief-resources/

As a school community, our thoughts are with the student’s family.
