Two High School Students Accepted into Honor Choirs

Two students stand next to a wallTwo Schoharie high school students, Sean Harrington (junior) and Sophia Rehberg (freshman) auditioned and were accepted into the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Eastern Division Honor Choirs. For auditions students were required to submit recordings that demonstrated vocal technical skills and performance excerpts from classical repertoire. From that point it was a blind selection process by a panel of judges.

Sean and Sophia were in competition with the finest high school singers across 12 states/regions including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland/DC, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Sean and Sophia traveled to Providence, New Hampshire for the ACDA Eastern Division conference where they rehearsed and performed under the direction of Dr. Felicia Barber and Liana Salinas, respectively in the Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Both ensembles featured premieres of a commissioned piece, one by Zanaida Robles and one by Melissa Dunphy. Sean and Sophia spent time working with these composers. They also saw performances by multiple groups including one with the world renowned group, VOCES8. After the VOCES8 performance they engaged in a Q&A with members of VOCES8 and their newly formed treble ensemble LYYRA.

Congratulations to Sean and Sophia on this impressive accomplishment!
