COVID can’t stop music-making at Schoharie high school! Even though we miss many of our “normal” music happenings, the current circumstances have helped us to find new ways to explore and create music using technology.

In the high school course Modern Music, students have been using Soundtrap to create their own ringtones. Class members could even download and use them on their own devices!

To compose their ringtone students went into a virtual studio and made artistic decisions by combining pre-recorded loops and by composing and inserting their own musical tracks. The results so far have been catchy, unique and innovative!

Another project that’s underway is our podcast project. Students have been interviewing people on a wide range of musical topics. After their interviews students will drop the audio files into the same website and add musical interludes to develop their own podcast episodes.

While we look forward to resuming many of our “normal” music activities in the future we are enjoying learning new skills in some different areas of music.
