School Tax Billing Update

On the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 9, Schoharie CSD was notified by the Schoharie County Real Property Tax Office of errors they made on individual school tax bills sent out by that office on Sept. 2.

Processing and setting individual tax bills is the sole responsibility of the Schoharie County Real Property Tax Office, which works with towns to establish town tax rates.

Other than approving an overall tax levy (the total amount to be collected districtwide) via public vote, Schoharie CSD has no role in establishing individual tax rates for towns or setting individual tax bills for district residents. The Schoharie County Real Property Tax Office calculates and mails individual tax bills.

Any errors on the original tax bills sent Sept. 2 were the result of calculations made by the Schoharie County Real Property Tax Office and not Schoharie CSD. That office completed new calculations on Thursday, Sept. 10 and is sending new tax bills.

Online tax payments that have already been made to Schoharie CSD will be processed. Any payments received so far via USPS mail will be processed or deposited.

If you have already paid your school tax bill for Schoharie CSD, and the amount is higher than your revised bill, overpayment will be refunded.

If you have not yet submitted your payment for Schoharie CSD, please disregard the tax bill sent on or around Sept. 2 and only pay the tax bill sent on or around Sept. 10.

To accommodate later payments, Schoharie CSD has requested that the county extend the tax deadline to Oct. 14 for no penalty and Nov. 14 at the usual 2 percent penalty.

For more information, please see the letter from that office regarding corrected school tax bills.

For questions or concerns related to this matter, please contact the Schoharie County Real Property Tax Office at (518) 295-8349.
