Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. SchoolTool Parent Portal is a web-based access portal that allows parents to view information about their child’s educational program, as well as how their son/daughter is doing in school.

Q. Who can access SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. SchoolTool Parent Portal may only be accessed by high school parents and students. It may also now be accessed by elementary families.

Q. How do I access SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. Returning users should visit: Parent Portal to log in.
If you did not receive a Parent Portal Application, please download or request the application from the high school office and return it there. Then you will receive a password.

Q. Why didn’t I get an email with my temporary password?
A. If you did not receive an email with your temporary password and you recently submitted your information, it may not yet be entered into the system. New addresses are entered daily so please be patient as the district works to generate account information for all parents.

Q. Do I need any special software to access SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. No, you do not need any special software to access the portal. Parents only need Internet access. Please note: SchoolTool seems to work best when used with either the Internet Explorer or Safari browser.

Q. What will I find once I log on?
A. You will be able to see scheduling information and attendance information for all of your child’s classes through SchoolTool Parent Portal.
For most classes at the high school, you will be able to see assignments and due dates, as well as grades on previous work and class grades.
You will also be able to send emails directly to teachers and view important messages and reminders throughout the school year. For more information, please read our guide for parents, available from the high school office.

Q. Will I be able to see all grades received on assignments?
A. Schoharie is presently phasing in full use of the program. At this stage, not all classes are using the grade book feature, so assignments and grades are not posted for all courses. For all classes that are using the grade book, all assignments will have grades posted. Please remember that the any grades reported in the portal are grades in progress—the only official grades are those on Report Cards sent home at the end of each quarter.

Q. What exactly is an assignment?
A. An assignment is not just homework, but could also refer to tests, quizzes, participation, class projects, etc.

Q. What can I do if I see that my child has a low grade on assignments?

Q. Am I able to email a teacher while I am in SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. Yes. To email a teacher via SchoolTool Parent Portal, simply click on the teacher’s name in the “Schedule” tab. An email interface will open, allowing you to send an email directly to the teacher.
