President Jaqueway called the Special Board of Education Meeting of August 9, 2018, to order at 6:10 p.m.

President Jaqueway led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Motion was made by Mr. Kuehnle, seconded by Mrs. Bernhardt to enter into Executive Session to discuss negotiations, matters pertaining to specific individuals, and contractual items.

President Jaqueway declared the meeting to be in recess at 6:11 p.m.

The Executive Session came to order at 6:15 p.m. with Mrs. Jaqueway, Mr. Kuehnle, Mrs. Bernhard, Mr. Guasp, Dr. Calacone and Superintendent Blanchard in attendance.

Ms. Blood arrived at 6:21 p.m. and proceeded into Executive Session.

Dr. Calacone exited the Executive Session at 6:42 p.m.

Motion was made by Mr. Kuehnle, seconded by Mrs. Bernhardt to end the Executive Session at 7:50 p.m.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT        
Capital Project Update
Superintendent Blanchard reported that Phase 1 is nearly complete.  Minor plumbing in the elementary, valve replacement and testing of the fire alarm system are the final issues. Phase 2 is through NYS SED and is assigned to an architect firm.

Fall Sports
Superintendent Blanchard stated that Fall coaches were meeting Friday, August 10 and Varsity Sports start on Monday, August 13.  After a discussion with the Board members, it was decided to separate the High School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director position.  An Athletic Coordinator is being appointed and the Assistant Principal position is being posted for immediate fulfillment.

*In order to be eligible for tenure, an individual receiving a probationary appointment as a classroom teacher must receive annual composite or overall APPR ratings of H or E in at least three of the four preceding years, and if the individual receives a rating of I in the final year of the probationary period, he or she will not be eligible for tenure at that time.

Motion was made by Mr. Guasp, seconded by Mr. Kuehnle that the Board of Education accept the recommendation of Superintendent Blanchard to appoint Kevin Scofield as Athletic Coordinator, 2.5 hours/day, Monday through Friday, Salary $39.15/hour, effective 8/10/18, for the 2018-19 School Year, according to the District School Calendar.
