FFA, NY AG Commissioner Help Celebrate AG Literacy Week

FFA students help in a classroom

Eleven Schoharie Valley FFA students, along with NY Commissioner of Agriculture Richard Ball, had the opportunity to participate in Agriculture Literacy Week in 2nd-grade classrooms at Schoharie on March 17.

Students read “Seasons on the Farm” and explored how the changing seasons play an important role in how farmers care for plants and animals year-round. In New York, beef cattle are raised across the state, and farmers work with each season to provide food, shelter, and care as cattle grow from calves into mature animals.

After reading, students discussed and drew what each season looks like on a beef farm—from calving in the spring, to grazing in the summer, health checks and feeding in the fall, and staying warm while eating hay in the barn during the winter.
