When the Schoharie Central School district is forced to close or delay school, or plans to dismiss students early due to emergency situations, such as severe weather conditions or problems in one of our schools, that information is reported on this website.
Closing and delay announcements are also made on local TV news stations and are posted on the websites of media using the School Closings Network, to which the district sends information.
On days when school for students is canceled due to difficult or dangerous weather conditions, out of district transportation is also canceled. In general, when school is closed during the day, all afternoon and evening functions are also canceled.
We encourage students and parents to sign-up for email notifications through our School News Notifier (SNN) system. To sign up, simply click on the SNN icon on the District’s homepage and create a profile. Users can choose to receive some or all types of alerts including text messages to their cell phone, and can unsubscribe at any time. Text messages are only used for delays, closings and other such emergency information.
Please note that SNN and text messages can be delayed due to situations beyond the district’s control. Delays can occur because of the volume of closing notifications sent over SNN, precautions put in place by email servers or issues with cellular carriers. Therefore, it is best to rely on more than one source of information for weather-related and other important announcements.
